Wheeling Jesuit Announces Schedule, Captains
from press release
Wheeling, WV -- Head Coach Jay Sothoron and the
Wheeling Jesuit staff are pleased to announce senior attackman Eric
Jenkins (Pleasanton, CA), senior midfielder Luke Janssen (Denver,
CO), and junior attackman Colin Jack (Pickerington, OH) as captains
for the 2010 season.
Jenkins comes off a great junior campaign with the Cards where he
finished with 16 goals and 10 assists totaling 26 points. A
tenacious rider Eric plays at one speed and is a tremendous leader
for the cardinals on and off the field. "As a Junior Eric was a
very vocal leader for our guys and has stepped into his role as a
captain in full stride," says Sothoron.
Janssen does it by example. His continued hard work and fearless
play has caught the eyes of his teammates and coaching staff and
has earned him a spot as a captain for his senior year. Last season
Janssen was 64% at the face-off x leading the Cards. "Luke did a
great job for us last year at the face-off x and will continue to
do so this year while taking on a role as a defensive midfielder.
Luke might not be the biggest guy but when he is on the field he
brings our team to another level physically," says Sothoron.
Jack the lone junior captain brings a vocal element to the team.
He is a kid that does everything the right way. Colin has been a
great leader for our large class of freshmen on and off the field.
Colin will be given an opportunity to shine as a captain this year
and into the future. Last year in a limited role Colin finished the
season with 13 goals and an assist and will look to improve that
total this year as a starter. "Colin has an opportunity to do some
big things this year. He's determined to maximize the potential of
this team and we are looking forward to watching the progress of
his journey," says Sothoron.
The 2010 season marks the inaugural season for the Wheeling Jesuit
Cardinals as a member of the East Coast Conference (ECC). Jesuit
will play 10 games against conference rivals and four
non-conference contests.
The Cards open their season on a four game road stretch starting
with a conference match-up against Molloy College (2/28). The next
three games take the Cardinals down south to face-off against
Wingate (3/08), Pfeiffer (3/10), and finally Belmont Abbey (3/13)
which will be played at a neutral site in Maryland.

on March 20th in their home opener. Another road stretch follows

(3/27) in Philadelphia. The team then returns to Wheeling for a

against local rival Seton Hill (4/01). Next the Cardinals will take
