Gettysburg Women Have Their 2010 Captains

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College women's lacrosse Head Coach Carol Cantele has announced seniors Nicole Ditillo (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) and Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) have been named captains for the upcoming season.

Ditillo and Hearn join a long list of former Bullet greats who have led one of the best NCAA Division III programs in the nation. Both student-athletes are two-year starters and have helped Gettysburg to a 50-12 record over the last three campaigns, including 24-3 in the highly competitive Centennial Conference. The squad has also reached the semifinals of the Division III Tournament in two of the last three years.

Ditillo is coming off her finest season as a Bullet, landing Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Metro Region First Team honors and being named first-team All-Centennial Conference. She started 19 contests for the 10th-ranked defense in the nation, which finished with a goals against average of 8.25. A standout student as well, Ditillo was named the first women's lacrosse Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) last spring.

Hearn will captain the lacrosse team for the second-consecutive season after finishing up her final season of field hockey this fall. She turned in her best performance on the lacrosse field last spring and was one of only two players to start all 20 contests. One of the team's most versatile players, Hearn was third on the team in scoring with 54 points on 35 goals and 19 assists and she was second in ground balls (40), fourth in draw controls (34), and third (tied) in caused turnovers (17). A big game player, Hearn tallied 11 goals and two assists during Gettysburg's run to the national semifinals last spring. This fall, she leads the Bullets nationally-ranked field hockey team with 21 points on eight goals and five assists.

Gettysburg finished 16-4 overall last season and went to the national tournament for the eighth-straight year. The Bullets made a run to the semifinals before falling 11-10 to national runner-up Salisbury University. The 2010 campaign gets underway on Thursday, Feb. 25, when Gettysburg travels to the University of Mary Washington for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
