Lacrosse Magazine's "Sideline Chatter" series puts fans on the soapbox for all things lacrosse. Each month, LM poses a question to its readers and selects a winner, who receives new gear courtesy of adidas.
Your peeps are talking. Get in on the conversation today!
Start with some great vision and hand-eye coordination. Mix in some stick skills and good communication. Add a couple feet that don’t trip over themselves.
Nothing out of the ordinary, right?
Maybe for the average keeper, yeah. Certainly that wasn’t enough for former Princeton All-America goalie Scott Bacigalupo, one of eight lax legends to be inducted into the National Hall of Fame Oct. 30. (If you think he's the best ever, vote in LMO's fan poll now!)
“Batch,” as he’s known fondly by teammates and frustratingly by former foes, had the intangibles that many times take goalies from good to great. Maybe a couple parts insanity. Definitely 100 percent heart.
For this installment of “Sideline Chatter,” Lacrosse Magazine wants to know:
What makes for a great goalie?
July 2010: What was your favorite moment of the NCAA men's and women's tournaments?
Winning Response: Pamela Koch Chaney, Baltimore, Md.
Notre Dame goalkeeping! Top notch! Scott Rodgers was pure class. I have a 10-year-old goalie and I was proud to be sitting in the stands watching him while my son was in awe. And I'm a Terps fan! Go figure!
June 2010: What would your lacrosse vanity plate say?
Winning Response: Jim Mullen, Bridgeport, W.V.
My plate on the front of my MINI. I coach the high school lacrosse team in Bridgeport, W. Va.
May 2010: What's the best or worst sportsmanship you've seen at a game?
Winning response: Garrett Shaw, Sparks, Nev.
Best sportsmanship I've ever seen was at a summer tournament. The opposing team was losing and one of our guys was being cocky, and he got laid out by a kid half his size. After the game, he went up to the kid and said, "Way to play hard out there and nice hit."
